Updating the designs

To date I have two different drone configurations which I play almost daily. To finalize these beasties, I had to finetune the designs of the bores and shuttles to make them easier to use and easier to produce.

During tests I suddenly ran into difficulties with tuning and intonation, especially of the tenor notes. After a deep dive in the physics of reed instruments I was able to solve the problems.

The new bores have only two variables namely reed bore diameter and exit bore length. In the middle is the shuttle and the shuttle cavity which are now standardized for all shuttles.

I made a range of prototypes to test the validity of the new ideas.

The photo below shows one set of the old shuttles and one new one; every note used to have a different shuttle. The new approach is to use identical shuttles for every note.
